My harasser whom I made a complaint about is one of the most famous human rights lawyers of Turkey in defence of free speech/freedom of expression. Under an authoritarian regime this is applauded as courage and bravery. He works on impunity and he has immunity for all his wrongdoings while defending freedom of expression of the dissent.
This is enraging because I see it all too often at my university as well. In interviewing QPOC on their experiences outdoors our university nearly always came up. The bully and harassment constant and ongoing and our ‘rainbow’ support decreased just last year. When staff tried to rally in support of keeping a queer manager in charge of rainbow services we were told the new (non queer) manager was offended at being ‘outed’ at straight… I’d thought I’d escaped these realities coming here from the US but it’s unfortunately too insidious and rampant.
